About Nicki and Tracy

nicki-biltmore.sky-cropNicki Deyton is a natural teacher and storyteller. Her teaching history includes college classes in art history and studio art, most recently at Guilford College, as well as short courses in bookmaking and other arts. Nicki has an M.F.A. in printmaking and papermaking, and she loves exploring alternative ways of using materials in her work.

tracy10132012-cropTracy Hart discovered the joy of making art in her late 20s, in the midst of a career change. She has an M.A. in art therapy, and her personal art process is influenced by her experiences with mindfulness meditation. Tracy’s first creative love was writing, so you can also find her facilitating journaling events for Hirsch Wellness Network.

About Bent Tuba Studio

The two of us met in 2002, and we began teaching workshops together in 2010 as part of the Hirsch Wellness Network. Bent Tuba Studio became our shared art-making space in 2011. The following year, we began welcoming others into the studio for art workshops as well as drop-in studio sessions. These days, we’re focused primarily on our own ongoing art processes in addition to hosting occasional open studio gatherings. (To hear about upcoming studio events, go to the top of this page to sign up for our newsletter.)

Our Philosophy

Art is for everyone! Making things that feel special and beautiful is an inherent human instinct. You already have everything you need to be an artist. All that’s missing is a chance to get friendly with the art materials. We believe that the best things happen, in art and in life, when you let yourself play.
